Welcome to the Engineering department

What’s it all about?

Engineering is one of the most globally in-demand jobs and is one of the UK’s greatest success stories. By applying science and maths to solve real world problems, engineers are at the forefront of pioneering technology. Whether you choose mechanical, electrical, welding or aeronautical engineering, you will leave college with the most up-to-date skills for the demands of today’s manufacturing industries.

Is it for me?

Engineering is geared towards people who can use their initiative to come up with imaginative and pragmatic solutions to complex problems. if you enjoy problem-solving, are interested in the latest developments in technology, and have a passion for thinking outside of the box, a career in engineering could very well suit you. There are a variety of different paths that an engineering qualification can lead you towards.

What will I do?

As well as learning about the most recent developments in engineering from industry experts, you will have the opportunity to visit the home of innovative space engineering, the Johnston Space Centre (otherwise known as the Space University) at NASA in Houston, Texas.

Milton Keynes College is home to the impressive multi-million pound Innovation & Technology Centre, a space dedicated entirely to exactly that. Here you will learn to use the latest advanced technological machinery with other like-minded students.

We encourage our students to make the most of the excellent links we have with employers, guest lectures and work placement opportunities, which can offer industry experience that employers look for.

In addition to all of this, our students are offered the chance to win a prestigious award and bursary. The Adam’s Engineering Prize is supported by David and Jennifer Adams, the founders of Ace Cundell Engineers in Cosgrove. The £2,000 prize goes to students who are able to demonstrate originality, innovation and creative problem-solving in their engineering course. The award has been created to encourage and inspire young engineers in our community, and to recognise and celebrate the most talented engineering students in Milton Keynes.

What can I do next?

Take the skills you develop here with us to the next level, whether that be working towards a degree (Space University anyone?) or becoming an apprentice, there is a route to facilitate you discovering your potential and building a rewarding career in your specialist subject.
