I first started working at the College 11 years ago as a Sports Science tutor where I taught various modules of the BTEC program.
Coming from a football background where I had worked as an academy coach for MK Dons FC and Watford FC, I was amazed that the college didn’t have a football team. I subsequently set up a football team and created a training program which was built around the timetable and I entered the college team into various cups and a league. The interest of the team grew and grew until we had at least 26 students all training and interested in playing for the college football team.
I left the college briefly for 2 years to work full time for MK Dons as their Education and Welfare Officer, as well as coaching the MK Dons academy part time. Also through remitted hours I was able to coach the college team and take them on a match day.
I was approached by the college to come back and set up a full time football academy, which embedded football into the student’s studies. I brought on board our current Head of Football James Nash and we started the pilot program with 17 students.
In the last 5 years we have grown considerably and now have 82 students enrolled over 4 courses. In addition, our elite program is now ranked number 1 in the country. We also run a 6 day, a week program and have a college side playing at Step7 of the national pyramid in the Hellenic league.
In 2014 I completed my MSc in Sports Coaching at Loughborough University and now am seeking new challenges on how we can grow the program once again.
Personally, I thoroughly enjoy and feel a sense of reward in building the program from scratch and the development opportunities we have invested and given the students. To adapt the colleges strapline “we are transforming lives through football and learning”. We’re giving players who have lost their confidence through rejection at professional clubs, a chance to gain a good education and play a great standard of football while instilling them with confidence along the way.
I previously worked for MK Dons Academy from 2009-2013, but decided to become the Head Coach and Elite Team Manager for Cat 1 & Hellenic Leagues. I have over 5 years coaching and lecturing experience at MK College within the Football department. I’m responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining development strategies for the all players involved within the programme.
I have extensive experience in coaching young professionals in England as well as abroad.
I hold a UEFA A prep and UEFA B licence, coaching training in FA Youth Modules 1, 2&3, and qualified in the FA Youth Coaches Award 12-16.
I also work very closely in mentoring and developing performance for selected professional players currently playing within the Football League.
