Since October we have been fundraising for our chosen charity of the year; Harry’s Rainbow, which supports local children and young people who have been bereaved of a parent or sibling.

Thanks to the fundraising efforts of MK College staff, including quizzes and cake sales, we have raised £1000 for the children’s bereavement charity.

Harry’s Rainbow CEO & Family Liaison Officer, Odette Mould said: “Thank you so much for your dedication to supporting Harry’s Rainbow. Your continued support is needed now more than ever whilst we navigate around our biggest challenge to date. We are still very much open to our beneficiaries and have amended our support services to provide online contact.”

Our donation has meant that  Harry’s Rainbow can cover the cost for online support from Arthur Ellis Mental Health Support. This organisation offers dedicated mentoring to those who need more emotional and wellbeing support as we see an increase in anxiety and loneliness due to the lockdown.

Our School & Community Officer, Rebecca Myrie commented: “It’s been fantastic how everyone has come together to support Harry’s Rainbow this year – whether you’ve worn a rainbow, taken part in a quiz, contributed a gift to your team’s Christmas hamper or simply bought and eaten a charity cake – thank you! The most rewarding aspect for me is to see the positive impact our fundraising will have on children who are struggling with the loss of a close relative.

“Next year I’m sure we can do even better and I’m looking forward to having more fun while we raise funds for Harry’s Rainbow!”

Because of the shorter window for fundraising due the pandemic, we will continue with Harry’s Rainbow as our Charity of the Year in 2020-21. We are looking forward to putting on more fun fundraisers in the coming year. All of the money that we raise will make a difference to young people who are going through really tough times.
