INTRODUCTION

The course covers a wide range of topics including the principles of infection prevention and control, the causes and spread of infection, and the importance of correct cleaning procedures, decontamination and waste management.

What will I do?

The Certificate in Principles of the Prevention and Control of Infection in Health Care Settings comprises of four units:

  • Unit 1 – Infection prevention and control
  • Unit 2 – Decontamination, cleaning and waste management
  • Unit 3 – The causes and spread of infection
  • Unit 4 – The role of personal hygiene in the prevention and control of infection

*Funding is subject to learners meeting set eligibility criteria; this may be discussed prior to the start of any course. Learners must be aged 19+ and have lived in the EU for the past three years. Please note that a withdrawal fee of £90 is payable if learners decide to withdraw from the course.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Students must be at least 19 years of age to enrol for the course.

Applicants aged 19-23 are eligible if they have already achieved a full Level 2 qualification or equivalent. Please contact us for clarification if required.

Applicants aged 24+ do not require any prior academic qualifications, but need a reasonable level of English language ability in order to complete a distance learning course.

Applicants must have lived in the UK for the last three years, currently reside in England, with a postcode outside of London, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool, Tees Valley Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, West Midlands, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, Wets of England, Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland. This course is only Fully Funded if you are over 19 years old, have been living in the UK for 3 years or more, and are not from a devolved area (e.g. Greater Manchester, Liverpool, West of England, West Midlands, Tees Valley, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, London or Greater London).

HOW MUCH WILL I HAVE TO STUDY EACH WEEK?

The course duration is 10 weeks, and requires 4-6 hours of study per week. Course start dates are flexible, but learners are expected to successfully complete the programme of study within the allocated timescale.

WHAT KIND OF QUALIFICATION IS THIS?

Learners will receive a nationally recognised qualification by successfully completing this course. The Level 2 Certificate in Principles of the Prevention and Control of Infection in Health Care Settings is awarded by TQUK.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

The course requires two assessments to be completed and passed to achieve the qualification. Students are allocated a tutor who will mark their assessments, and can be contacted by telephone or email if required.
