What will I do?

You will split your time between college-based learning and Silverstone’s many catering venues. You can expect to participate in both practical and theory sessions, in which you will gain the knowledge, skills and experience to build a successful career in the catering industry. You can expect to be involved with a variety of events at Silverstone, including the British Grand Prix. At these events you will experience working in different roles, to widen your skillset and find out where your talents lie. You can expect to visit national food markets, food and beverage exhibitions, supplier visits, race days at Silverstone, and visits and demos from industry specialists. You will also be working in The Brasserie, our award-winning on-site commercial restaurant which is open to the general public. You will learn how a restaurant and coffee shop is run, trying your hand at everything from serving customers to crafting bespoke menus. You will experience all different areas of the industry and receive first class support from our highly-experienced tutors, who will share their contacts and industry links with you.

What's next?

Previous students have gone on to work at prestigious restaurants such as Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons, The Savoy, The Grand Hotel Kempinski in Geneva and The Lanesborough Hotel. You could also have the opportunity to continue your career at Silverstone, becoming a member of the professional hospitality and catering team. One previous student, Talia Barrington, was crowned the Masterchefs of Great Britain Young Chef of the Year in 2018. You could kick off your career in the industry right away by using the contacts and connections you’ve made throughout your time on the course. You could also progress onto an Apprenticeship so you can continue learning while earning a wage.

Is it for me?

Do you watch programmes like Masterchef and know that you could do it better? Are you famed for your brownies or blondies? If you’ve got a passion for food and the determination to get a taste of the culinary industry, learning in a live environment is a great place to start. You must be able to take direction and work as a team, often in heated (literally) environments where you have a tight deadline to work to. You must be a logical thinker, be reactive to situations and have a creative flair. You will have chances to enter national competitions, create your own dishes and menus, and gain the relevant skills and experience to help you stand out from the rest.

You require four GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above including English and Maths.
