INTRODUCTION

In the last few years, there has been a 24% rise in jobs in this sector, due to the demand for more and more content. Careers cover everything from camera operators, to animators and directors. The opportunity for progression is huge, with TV and film being one of the most globally dominating industries. The UK film sector contributes approximately £1.3bn to the economy and has the third-largest consumer market worldwide for filmed entertainment.

What will I do

Whilst there will be a number of common units, you will have the option to specialise in Games & Animation or study more general Media.

Using our media studio and editing facilities, you will develop the technical skills that are used in the industry today. These skills are developed over a series of projects that will allow you to learn and demonstrate a wide range of pre-production, production and post-production skills.

The projects you will work on will include short films, documentaries, music videos and advertisements, giving you a wide range of skills in filming and editing techniques for different briefs. The skills you develop will be brought to life in an industry setting, as we will support you in finding relevant work experience.

Level 2 Creative Media Production & Technology

If you need to retake your GCSE English and maths or study functional skills, you will be able to do so alongside this course.

What’s next?

Once you have successfully completed the Level 1 in Media and Animation you will have the opportunity to progress on a Level 2 course which will help you define your career aspirations further: Level 2 Art & Design, Level 2 Media, Level 2 Creative Digital Arts. The Level 2 course will prepare you to progress on to study Media Production Advanced.

Are you a TV or film buff? Always creating and editing videos on your phone? Do you love the visual effects you see in music videos and adverts? If you’ve got a passion for media production and want to take your first steps into the industry, this course will introduce you to the professional skills needed to progress.

You must have creative flair, an eye for detail and great communication skills in order to bring to life a project brief. If you have all this, an exciting career in media production could be ahead of you.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Level 1: 4 GCSEs at grade 2/E or above, or an Entry Level 3 qualification on ESOL or equivalent.

Level 2: 4 GCSEs at grade 3/D or above, including English and Maths.

Once we have received your application you will be invited to a programme interview which will give you the chance to ask any questions you have about the course and for us to discuss which level you are most suited to based on your current / predicted results. 

If you meet the entry requirements you will be enrolled on our Level 2 programme where you will gain a specialist qualification in your chosen area. If you don’t quite meet the entry requirements for Level 2 you will be enrolled onto our Skills Academy programme. Skills Academy gives you the opportunity to pick up essential study stills whilst still gaining technical knowledge in your chosen area. On completion of this course you will gain a Vocational Studies Certificate which will enable you to progress onto a full Level 2 specialist programme.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Assessment is ongoing through workshops, skills building and project work tied to assignment briefs, with assessments point throughout the year. There is a Final Major Project in the Summer term in which you will achieve your overall grade for the course.

HOW WILL MY PROGRESS BE MONITORED?

Your progress will be monitored on regular basis through 121s with your course team leader and a Progress Mentor assigned to you. In addition, at the end of every brief, you will receive written feedback that outlines what you have done well and areas for you to focus on going forward.
