What will I do?

This course will prepare you to pursue a career in Make-up Artistry, either through further study at university or heading straight out to work in this exciting industry. The course includes all required elements to work effectively as a make-up artist, including skills in applying make-up, fashion and photographic make-up, media make-up and camouflage make-up.

What's next?

You could progress on to further study at university, focussing on media make-up and character design, among other options. You could also head straight into the industry working for companies such as Mac, Nars or Urban Decay as product representatives. You could also support photographers with photoshoots and wedding make-up or even start your own business.

From owning your own business to working on film sets, this course will offer you the skills and experience you need in order to craft a career in this creative industry.

You will be required to wear a uniform and purchase a kit, details of which will be provided at enrolment.

You will be in college for a minimum of 3 days a week, a maximum of 5 days and carry out industry-relevant work experience. Homework will be required, research into make-up techniques, period makeup and the history of fashion, costume and looks throughout a wide range of historical periods.

You will have 1-1s with your progress mentor and targets will be set to support your success and stretch your skills. Written work is marked and feedback provided to support improvement. Subject tutors will provide verbal and written feedback to ensure progress is made

Assessment is carried out through written work, practical observations on external clients and models and through project based learning experiences.

You should have GCSE English and maths at grade 4 or above, have GCSE Art at grade 4 or above and be over the age of 16.
