What will I do?

Discover your specialism in painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, graphic design, contextual studies, photography and video. You will have access to industry experts and ‘live’ clients through established partnerships. Our dedicated work studio space will be available for you to build an innovative portfolio of work ready to gain employment or progress to the Level 5 HND in Art Practice.

Upon successful completion candidates are encouraged to consider ‘topping-up’ their HNDs to the final year of an art degree, subject to selected University criteria. You will also be able to consider employment in a fine arts-related field, including work as a practicing artist or at a gallery. To apply for the HND you will be expected to have achieved the Level 4 HNC Diploma in Art and or have an equivalent qualification.

Mature students without these formal qualifications are welcome to apply; acceptance onto the course will be subject to a portfolio interview.

Students are continually assessed throughout the course through set project work and tutorials, structured feedback and critical appraisal. You will be graded for the units covered for each project which provides you with a continuing log of progress.

Student progress is monitored through regular one-to-one tutorials and assessment of project work. You will also have a Personal Tutor who will support you with your studies.

You should be prepared to study for around 20 hours per week. Approximately 9 of these will be taught sessions at college, the rest will be directed study to be completed in your own time alongside online learning.
