What will I do?

You will complete contextual studies and individual projects consisting of various techniques and projects. Your professional development will be consistently prioritised by staying in touch with the industry, and both observing and debating current trends and techniques. You will have additional opportunities to grow your skillset and portfolio through live projects commissioned by employers and external businesses.

Upon successful completion you will be encouraged to consider ‘topping-up’ your HNC to the HND level 5 qualification. You could then round it off with a full degree by completing the final year at a relevant university.

You will also be able to consider employment in a graphic design-related field, with options including working as an animator, technical illustrator, storyboard artist, advertising designer or an illustrator for graphic novels. You will benefit from work experience links with a range of designers and businesses to help bolster your employment journey.

COURSE HIGHLIGHTS COURSE HIGHLIGHTS

You will normally have achieved a Level 3 qualification such as a National Diploma with at least 80 UCAS points and hold a Level 2 qualification in English.

Mature students without these formal qualifications are welcome to apply; acceptance onto the course will be subject to a portfolio interview.

You will be assessed through a variety of methods throughout the course, including discussion, assignments, written tasks, presentations and practical. Assignments will be industry linked. They are designed to allow you to demonstrate your knowledge of the subjects, broaden your core skills in graphic design practice and develop your personal and professional approach to your work.

Student progress is monitored through regular one-to-one tutorials and regular assessment of project work. You will also have a Personal Tutor who will support you with your studies.

This qualification is at level 4, you will gain a Higher National Certificate in Graphic Design.

You should be prepared to study for around 20 hours per week. Approximately 10 of these will be taught sessions at college, the rest will be directed study to be completed in your own time.
