What will I do?

The best way to learn how to give beauty treatments is to do just that. From day one you will be treating customers and clients in our commercial Graduate Salon. You will gain skills in both beauty treatments and customer service, preparing you for a well-rounded and successful career. You will learn from guest therapists in specific workshops, have the opportunity to attend focus days at top London studios, enter national competitions, attend industry related workshops and benefit from industry links with Champneys and Aqua Sana. You will gain skills to promote additional services or products to clients, providing manicures, pedicures, facial skin care, eye treatments, waxing and the application of make-up. You will also have the opportunity to gain skills in reception duties and take part in work experience.

What's next?

Our courses can give you the platform to go out into the workplace straight from college, or continue learning in a specialist field, depending on what you’re passionate about. You could continue your studies through an apprenticeship where you will be able to gain further qualifications and experience while earning a wage. The beauty industry lends itself well to self-employment and entrepreneurship – as a qualified Beauty Therapist you would have the skills and knowledge to set up your own mobile business. You can also join a professional register such as the Register of Beauty Professionals.

Is it for me?

This qualification will provide you with the requisite knowledge, understanding and skills to work competently as a beauty therapist. You must be determined to pursue a career in the beauty industry, whether you’ve get your eyes set on your own business, or travelling the globe on a cruise ship. You must be able to think logically and prioritise health and safety at all times. You must be a friendly, sociable person with impeccable communication skills, and a passion for all things beauty!

This qualification includes the required treatments to work effectively as a beauty specialist including: waxing techniques, applying make-up, eyelash and eyebrow treatments, manicure, pedicure, facial skincare, client care, health, safety and salon reception duties.

Career opportunities from this qualification include working in a commercial beauty salon as well as becoming an Independent/self-employed/mobile beauty specialist.

Whilst this qualification’s main purpose is to prepare you for employment as a beauty specialist, learners often choose to develop their skills further by progressing onto beauty therapy at Level 3 allowing the student to gain employment within spas and performing advanced beauty treatments within salons.

Units include:

  • Manual and spray tanning, threading
  • Trip to Professional Beauty exhibition, London/ Birmingham
  • Work experience placement to enhance learning and client care and communication skills
  • One day ear piercing course
  • Talks, visits and workshops from Industry experts

This course offers a substantial vocational qualification that will prepare you for a career as a Beauty Therapist. This qualification will support you to gain employment working in commercial beauty salons as well as hotels, spas and cruise liners. Entry onto this qualification can be via previous completion of a level 2 qualification in beauty therapy and a successful skills test and interview. This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a beauty therapist including: providing body massage, face and body electrotherapy, health and safety and client care. Opportunity to develop further knowledge and skills with optional units such as microdermabrasion are also included.

Units include:

  • Enhanced work experience opportunity with leading Spas and salons such as Champneys, Tring
  • Trip to Professional Beauty exhibition, London/ Birmingham
  • Facial and product training by Elemis professional skin care range
  • Experience in organisation and running of special events held by the college
  • Industry talks and trade tests by local Spas which could lead to future employment
