What will I do?

With relevant work experience, tours of local employers’ facilities, various local and international trips and visiting guest speakers, you’ll be focusing on preparing for your future career. Our Innovation and Technology Centre houses industry standard equipment, including CAD software. You will also conduct experiments using a wind tunnel, learn about working safely in different environments, and study relevant theories to help you become a well-rounded engineer. Learning from highly experienced tutors, you will conduct research assignments relevant to the industry now, not five years ago. You will cover all aspects of engineering, ranging from mechanical, including science and material properties, to electrical and electronic engineering.

What's next?

Most roles in the industry require a higher education qualification in specific areas in order to progress into the industry. You could also take on an apprenticeship in the industry, earning a wage while you develop your skillset and learn first hand. Career opportunities in engineering are vast, and through your course you will discover which area you’d like to specialise in and pursue.

Engineering is ideal for people who can use their initiative and solve problems with imaginative and pragmatic solutions. If you are a logical thinker, can think outside of the box and are inspired by the latest developments in technology, a career in one of the most in-demand industries could be the making of you. There are a variety of paths you can go down to pursue this, and jobs require practical skills just as much as academic ones. Passion and dedication are the key to success, as a lot of hard work is required.

You require 4 GCSEs at grade E/2 or above.

You require 4 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English or Maths with the other at grade D/3.

You require 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English and Maths.
