What will I do?

This course looks at the Prevent duty, which was developed to help reduce the threat of terrorism in the UK. It explores what radicalisation, extremism and terrorism are, and the different ways in which radicalisation can be reduced. Learners will develop a knowledge of safeguarding in an environment where they have a duty of care.

The course also explores safeguarding, including key related legislation, the roles different agencies play in the process, and instances of failures to protect the vulnerable. Students will learn how to recognise and respond to the signs of abuse or harm.

The course comprises of 10 units:

  • Unit 1 – Understand the Prevent duty
  • Unit 2 – Understand the terms radicalisation, extremism and terrorism
  • Unit 3 – Understand how to reduce the risk of radicalisation
  • Unit 4 – Understand the term safeguarding
  • Unit 5 – Understand the national and local context of safeguarding and protection from abuse
  • Unit 6 – Know how to recognise signs of abuse or potential harm
  • Unit 7 – Know how to respond if abuse or harm is disclosed, suspected or alleged
  • Unit 8 – Understand the potential consequences of inappropriate or illegal online activity
  • Unit 9 – Understand how to reduce the risks posed online
  • Unit 10 – Know about potential signs and behavioural changes that could cause concern.

This qualification is for anyone who is responsible for the safeguarding of people and to help prevent radicalisation. It gives learners an understanding of recognising the signs of abuse, how to reduce the risk of radicalisation, and the potential consequences of illegal online activity.

The course duration is 6 weeks and requires three to four hours of study per week. Course start dates are flexible, but learners are expected to successfully complete the programme of study within the allocated timescale.

Learners will receive a nationally recognised qualification by successfully completing this course. The Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Safeguarding and Prevent is awarded by CACHE.

The course requires three assessments to be completed and passed to achieve the qualification. Students are allocated a tutor who will mark their assessments and can be contacted by telephone or email if required.

Students must be at least 19 years of age to enrol for the course.

Applicants aged 19-23 are eligible if they have already achieved a full Level 2 qualification or equivalent. Please contact us for clarification if required.

Applicants aged 24+ do not require any prior academic qualifications but need a reasonable level of English language ability in order to complete a distance learning course.
