What will I do?

Poor diet and lack of exercise are recognised as some of the major contributors to ill-health. Regular exercise and a balanced diet can help to reduce stress, improve sleep, reduce the risk of illness and increase life quality. This course aims to develop a learner’s knowledge and understanding of how to improve their own personal exercise, health and nutrition.

The Certificate in Improving Personal Exercise, Health and Nutrition consists of eleven units, examining the following topics:

  • Concepts of health and well-being
  • Factors that could have a negative impact on health and well-being
  • Factors affecting personal motivation
  • Basic anatomy and physiology
  • Diet and nutrition for exercise
  • Energy requirements for exercise
  • Fluid replacement for exercise
  • The importance of exercising safely
  • How to measure personal fitness levels
  • How to follow an appropriate personal programme of exercise and nutrition
  • How to evaluate the personal programme of exercise and nutrition.

The course duration is 10 weeks, and requires three to four hours of study per week. Course start dates are flexible, but learners are expected to successfully complete the programme of study within the allocated timescale.

Learners will receive a nationally recognised qualification by successfully completing this course. The Level 2 Certificate in Improving Personal Exercise, Health and Nutrition is awarded by NCFE.

The course requires three assessments to be completed and passed to achieve the qualification. Students are allocated a tutor who will mark their assessments, and can be contacted by telephone or email if required.

Students must be at least 19 years of age to enrol for the course.

Applicants aged 19-23 are eligible if they have already achieved a full Level 2 qualification or equivalent. Please contact us for clarification if required.

Applicants aged 24+ do not require any prior academic qualifications, but need a reasonable level of English language ability in order to complete a distance learning course.
