What will I do?

From correctly preparing surfaces for decoration, to using high volume low pressure spray equipment and producing specialist decorative finishes, you will learn in a stimulating and professional environment both in and out of college. Work experience is a vital part of learning the trade, and you will gain essential skills and knowledge through learning on the job with a variety of local companies. You will also undertake relevant health and safety training, learning about construction technology and erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms.

If you study the Entry Level 3, you will gain skills and knowledge of all areas of construction, including bricklaying, painting & decorating and carpentry, in order to enable you to find your specialism for further study.

Painting and Decorating Level 1 is the vocational element of a study programme which includes English, Math and work experience for students who would like to eventually work as Painters and Decorators in the construction industry.

The level 1 provides the foundation of Painting and Decorating which involves the knowledge and skills required to Prepare and paint surfaces, apply wall paper, standard decorative finishes progress to level 2.

The course is delivered in specialist industrial workshops for each trade and computer /classrooms for theory units by professionally qualified staff with current construction knowledge and skills.

  • Knowledge of technical information, quantities and communication with others
  • Knowledge of construction technology
  • Erect and dismantle access equipment and working platforms
  • Prepare common surface types for decoration
  • Apply basic paint systems by brush and roller
  • Apply foundation and plain papers
  • Produce standard decorative finishes
  • Painting and Decorating Level 2 is the vocational element of a study programme which includes English, Math and work experience for students who would like to eventually work as Painters and Decorators in the construction industry.

    This course builds on Painting and decorating Level 1 and develops skills to industrial standards to progress into site work, apprenticeship or self-employment.

    The course is delivered in specialist industrial workshops for each trade and computer /classrooms for theory units by professionally qualified staff with current construction knowledge and skills.

    Course units include:

  • Knowledge of technical information, quantities and communication with others
  • Knowledge of construction technology
  • Erect and dismantle access equipment and working platforms

  • Apply water-borne paint systems using high volume low pressure HVLP spray equipment
