Apply these skills effectively to a range of purposes in the workplace and in other real life situation.

Course Entry Requirements

This course is not suitable for those still learning English as an additional language. Outcomes of assessment at interview.

How will my progress be monitored?

Routine assessments and mocks will provide opportunities to monitor progress and set new targets.

How will I be assessed?

Functional Skills courses have three final exams, for learners who are ready to attempt them.

Exams are in ‘Speaking, Listening and Communicating’, ‘Reading’ and ‘Writing’.

GCSE Language has two written papers and, for many learners, a Spoken Language Assessment.

How much will I have to study each week?

3 hours plus revision and homework.

Are there any entry requirements?

You must be aged 19 years or older on 31st August 2023.

You must not already have a Level 2 English qualification – C or 4 at GCSE, Level 2 Functional Skills or equivalent.

To get this course for free, Applicants must have lived in the UK for the last three years, currently reside in England, with a postcode outside of London, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool, Tees Valley Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, West Midlands, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, Wets of England, Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland.
