What does this course cover?

This is a knowledge-only qualification, therefore, no placement in a real work environment is required.

You will study the following 2 mandatory units:

  • Preparing to work as a home based childcarer
  • Preparing to set up a home based childcare business.

You will also study the following:

A paediatric first aid qualification is a requirement of registration for childminders.

We will also support your development in English and maths which are a key component of all College Programmes.

Who is this course for?

Is it your goal to set up a home-based childcare business as a registered childminder or to be employed in home based childcare settings as a childminding assistant or other home childcarers (e.g. nannies, au pairs).

This course will help you gain an understanding of the requirements of a registered childminder. It will enhance your career prospects and can lead to further training opportunities.

What can I do after this course?

After successfully completing the course you could progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Learning and Development (Early Years Educator).

You could seek an apprenticeship in the sector or enter employment within a childcare environment.

There is continuous assessment of knowledge in the form of workbooks submitted via the online portfolio.

Through theory one to one sessions with your allocated Workplace Trainer. Use of OneFile e-portfolio system.
