Art and Design

About the Industry

Without the arts, our society would be a pretty boring place. The arts form part of our identity as a society, and contributes to our quality of life. What would life be without colour and creativity? From giant advertising billboards, right down to the artwork on this website, design and creativity is at the forefront of everything we do. Design and imagery are just as important to businesses as the services they offer, and art departments are often responsible for the most successful and impactful campaigns.

This course is available at Levels: 1, 2, 3, 3/4 (Foundation Diploma).

Duration: Various Start Date: 02/09/2019 Study Mode: Full-Time Location: Bletchley Campus Fees: If you are over 19+ then please contact us for more information.

What will I do?

You will explore all different styles of art, using a huge variety of materials and platforms. Through close working relationships with the arts communities in MK, you will understand where a career in art & design could take you. With visits to London galleries and art museums, you will be inspired by new artists and art forms that you previously wouldn’t have considered. Learning in small groups in dedicated art studios, you will have a full range of facilities at your disposal, giving you the opportunity to grow your skillset and learn new techniques. Covering modules such as illustration, fine art, graphic art, 3D modelling, clay art, and much more, you will become a well-rounded artist prepared to enter the industry.

What's next?

It’s important to study what you’re passionate about. If you’ve got a creative flair, are able to push the boundaries and think outside the box, a career in art & design would be ideal for you. You must be able to commit your time and energy to big independent projects, and be able to conduct research independently. You must be prepared to be flexible, work to tight deadlines and pay excellent attention to detail. Above all, the most important attribute is a love for all things art & design.

Is it for me?

The great thing about studying art & design is that it will offer you a range of transferable skills. You will be perfectly positioned to study art at university-level, either through a HNC/HND pathway, or through a specific art school. You could also go on to study a different form of art, including graphic design, photography, fine art, or animation. You can also move straight into the industry, using the connections and contacts you’ve made throughout your course to help you secure employment.

If you are aiming towards studying at Level 3, you will need at least four GCSEs at minimum grade 4/C, including English and Maths. However, these requirements and any others specific to the course, will be discussed at interview.
