What does this course cover?

You will develop your skills in double-entry bookkeeping and gain a grasp of management and administrative processes. You'll learn how to use manual and computerised accounting systems and how to work with purchase, sales and general ledgers.

Once you’ve completed this course, you’ll be awarded the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting.

The AAT Accounting Qualification proves to future employers that you have accountancy expertise and skills to turn theory in to practice. It is recognised throughout the world as a sign of your talent and effectiveness.

What can I do after this course?

Once you have achieved your AAT Level 2 Certificate, you can seek employment in an area of accountancy and progress to the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting which can also be undertaken on a part time basis. On achieving the whole AAT qualification to level 4 you may wish to continue studying to take one of the chartered accounting institute exams such as CIMA or ACCA.

Entry requirements

No formal qualifications are required to undertake this course. However, you must have a good understanding of the English language and excellent numerical skills to Level 1. Applications from students without formal qualifications are welcome.

We offer both day and evening study options. After you have applied, we will invite you to an interview and assessment session.

Course detail

How much will I have to study each week?

You will attend classes for about 5-6 hours a week, and may be studying about 4-5 hours a week outside of the classroom. This may increase around exam time. The lessons are on a Thursday from 9.15am - 3pm. The exams will take place on Tuesday evenings 6-8pm. There are five exams.

Do I need to purchase anything?

This course is available as part of an Apprenticeship programme and costs are significantly reduced for eligible students.

Other costs payable by all adult students during the course will be approximately £140 to cover AAT membership for one year.

Text books are a compulsory purchase and will cost around £100.  Assessment costs are included in the course fees the first time you take each unit assessment. A resit of a unit will cost £50.

How will I be assessed?

There are several assessment points through the course which coincide with your learning. Assessments are computerised and set externally by the AAT. The assessments themselves may be held outside the published class times.

How will my progress be monitored?

You will complete progress tests throughout your course. Your tutors will be there to support you along the way particularly as you approach an assessment date.
