Student Successes

It's so important to celebrate the successes and triumphs of our students and staff. We love to show off the fantastic work created at MK College and highlight those who have overcome the odds to succeed, and celebrate the hard work that goes into the development of education every day. Students of the Year 2020 looked a bit different to normal due to the circumstances. We went live online from The Event Loft with Imagine Presentations to celebrate our students, which you can watch back now!

Students of the Year 2020

Every year we dedicate a very special evening to reward our students and staff who have been nominated for their hard work, dedication, determination to succeed and enthusiasm for their subject. The evening is always a stand out event, shining a light on the wide range of achievements and successes of students and staff alike. For the past three years, our awards ceremonies have been sponsored by Imagine Presentations.

Award winners are chosen from the College’s full cohort of students from across Milton Keynes and beyond, with each having been nominated by their tutors and classmates.

On the night itself, the awards are presented by representatives of each category’s industry sponsor, demonstrating and developing the College’s partnerships with commercial businesses and providers.

This is my favourite night of the year every year. It’s really important to celebrate individual and collective success, not just for the winners but by way of inspiration to their fellow staff and students. The theme for this year’s event is Reasons to be Diverse and we’re surrounded by the evidence that diversity is not just about natural justice but it makes good business sense too. If you want to employ the most able people you need to spread your recruitment net as widely as possible.

2019's ceremony took place at The Sculpture Gallery, Woburn Abbey. The overall Student of the Year went to Mykenlande Dorasin, better known as Mickey. Originally from the Turks & Caicos Islands, Mickey had many obstacles to overcome on the way to becoming such an excellent student when she arrived in Britain only two years ago. Mickey studied for a Level 3 Diploma in Business and went to city HR (Human Resources) consultancy, People In Flow where she worked as a Marketing Assistant and Researcher.

Summer Showcase

We want to show the rest of Milton Keynes how much dedication, enthusiasm and talent goes into the work that gets created every day at the College. Every year we dedicate an entire weekend to creating a space to showcase a whole variety of work created by our students. Previous venues include Middleton Hall in thecentre:mk and MK Gallery.

This is the perfect opportunity for collaboration between different faculties, students and staff and the local community. On stage performances, catwalks, art exhibitions, activities and demonstrations are all featured throughout the event, giving our students the chance to show off their work.

With such an array of exciting and engaging activities, there’s something for everyone who may be visiting centre:mk during the week with the talents and skills of the College’s learners at the heart of the event. By holding this kind of spectacular showcase, we’re able to really show off the hard work and dedication that takes place across the College and behind the scenes throughout the year from all those involved – students, teachers and our employer partners. It’s a genuinely exciting opportunity to share our stars with the community of Milton Keynes and show what they are capable of.
