Engineering apprenticeships: what are the options?

Engineering touches so many industries and businesses and with the rate of developments in technology, employing an engineering apprentice can be a great way to stay ahead of the game and keep up to date with the latest developments.

As well as offering a fresh perspective, engineering apprentices have the opportunity to develop their skills on the job. Through a collaborative learning experience between college and employer, they will learn from industry experts, get to understand the latest technology and theories, network and share ideas with other apprentices. With so many options, how do you go about finding the right apprentice for your business?

What exactly are apprenticeships?

Apprenticeships combine work related practical skills with theoretical knowledge, enabling apprentices to learn all the skills necessary for the job role and to gain relevant nationally-recognised qualifications. They will enable your business to support the development of a person entering employment for the first time, or for upskilling existing staff already employed within the company.

How can taking on an apprentice have a positive impact on my business?

Apprenticeship programmes can be tailored to meet your needs as an individual employer. This can ensure that your apprentices gain the right skills to meet the requirements of your business and to offer a solution to succession planning, company growth and future skills development.
Through the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) we can offer a dedicated service in supporting with the recruitment of apprentices. This includes advertising the vacancy on the NAS recruitment website and supporting with shortlisting applicants for you to interview.

Incentive payments may be available to you as an employer and we can work with you to advise individual businesses in relation to eligibility criteria.
