Festival in the City takes over the centre:mk

Tue 26 Jun 2018 - posted by MK College

The students of MK College took over Middleton Hall in the centre:mk over the weekend of 14th – 16th June, showing off their talents and skills in the annual Festival in the City.

A cube inspired stage centred the Festival, which was creatively used by inclusive learning, performing arts, music, fashion and make-up artistry students to entertain the crowd. Surrounded by pop up art exhibitions featuring the work of art and design, graphic design, photography and fashion students, the Festival also provided a space for The Brasserie and the Graduate Salon to have their own pop-ups.

With a programme of entertainment filling three fun-packed days, the Festival offered the public the opportunity to see the fantastic work from our students first-hand.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the Barber of the Year competition, which saw both apprentice and junior barbers from across Milton Keynes in the surrounding areas go head to head, with just an hour to style their model. They were judged by three professional barbers, with the top spot going to Charlie Boxell from Universal Hair.

The Inclusive Learning students took us on a journey with dances through the decades, as well as performing and signing along to songs such as Firework – Katy Perry, and This is Me from The Greatest Showman. Level 2 and Level 3 HCM Music students also combined to bring both original music and cover songs, drawing in lots of different crowds. The Performing Arts teams entertained the crowd with a snippet from their final major project, 9-5 the Musical. There were also solo performances and dance numbers.

The fashion students graced the catwalk, displaying their pieces from their final major projects. The make-up artistry show was also one of the highlights of the weekend, drawing in large crowds eager to see the stunning array of creations.
