Adult English and Maths Achievers Take Centre Stage

Thu 29 Jun 2017 - posted by MK College

Milton Keynes College celebrated the achievements of adult learners last week with an awards ceremony held at its Chaffron Way campus.

The ceremony took the style of an Oscars awards presentation, with learners receiving certificates of achievement to recognise how far they have travelled in terms of their education.

In addition, students were recognised for individual successes during their time with MK College and there was also an opportunity to celebrate the work of the College’s teaching staff.

Milton Keynes College offers a variety of courses and programmes aimed at adult learners, which are designed to meet a wide range of ability levels, from individuals struggling with everyday reading and writing to anyone looking to prepare for a Level 2 or GCSE qualification.

Classes for adult learners run throughout the week during school hours or in the evening, giving students the chance to fit them in around their own busy schedules.

In addition, the College offers courses in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), providing opportunities for anyone looking to improve their English skills – something which proves essential for further study or employment.

Speaking at the ceremony, Faye Williams, the College’s Faculty Director for Care and Active Industries, was delighted for the students being honoured. She said: “Events like today’s awards ceremony are a great chance to celebrate the individual achievements of learners.

“Many of the students receiving awards today will have overcome great obstacles just to study with us, so their personal sense of achievement is immense.

“Speaking to many of the learners today and finding out how far they have travelled in terms of their education is unbelievably inspiring and everyone connected with adult learning takes huge pride in seeing the learners achieve their goals.”
