Dr Julie Mills
Principal and CEO
Dr Julie Mills was appointed Principal & Chief Executive of Milton Keynes College in January 2011. Prior to her appointment, Julie was Deputy Principal for five years. Julie is an Open University graduate and was awarded a doctorate in 2005 for her academic research into the psychological contract of prison education staff. Julie is passionate about closing diversity gaps and challenging discrimination and has been a mentor for the Black Leadership Initiative and the Women’s Leadership Network. Julie is a Board member of MK Business Leaders, Chair of the Helena Kennedy Foundation and Director of MK Dons Sport and Education Trust. Julie is also the Chair of Women Leaders UK.
Deputy Principal: Curriculum
Chris McLean brings more than 30 years of further education experience to his role as Deputy Principal Curriculum and Quality. His background is in Computer Science, which he lectured in for five years before managing a Computing Curriculum area for four years. Following this he worked in a number of colleges, in both academic and business support leadership roles. His commitment to the sector comes from a strong belief that it has a critical role to play in supporting society, the economy and the future of our communities. In support of this he is working with colleagues to develop innovative curriculum delivery models that fundamentally improve the outcomes, employability and future life chances of our students.
Chief Operating Officer
Imelda is a highly experienced Board Level Executive with a vast proven background in helping organisations move with the changing market/business environment and ensures that the business operates to enhance its reputation, and strive to become a leader in the industry.
Assistant Principal Study Programmes
Keith was appointed as Director of Digital & Creative Industries in July 2016. Prior to this, Keith was Deputy Principal at Canterbury College. During his twenty three years in Further Education Keith has worked in a range of further education colleges that has reflected a diverse variety of social, cultural and economic backgrounds. During this experience, Keith has seen at first hand the opportunities that education has provided for many young people who would otherwise have had limited life chances. This continues to drive him and, as a parent of a child with a disability, Keith has personal as well as professional experience of potential barriers to learning and can see the huge importance and value of a supportive, inclusive and aspirational educational environment.
Assistant Principal Higher & Adult Education
Faye is a former Milton Keynes College student and proud member of the College Alumni. After successfully completing her BTEC National Diploma in Sport Science Faye progressed and after three years teaching in a secondary school, Faye returned to MK College as a lecturer in Sport Science and has worked her way up through the ranks to become the Director of Care and Active Industries. Faye is passionate about providing students with opportunities to overcome barriers to excel and strive towards their full potential.
Assistant Principal Quality & Student Experience
Roles in youth work, accountancy and secondary school teaching provided a diverse mix of experiences prior to Jeremy joining the world of further education, some 14 years ago. He has since worked in four different colleges, progressing from his initial role as a Business Lecturer at Leek College, on the edge of the Peak District, to Assistant Principal for Quality and Performance at North Hertfordshire College. Jeremy is passionate about challenging students and staff to move out of their comfort zones and try new ways of working and learning, recognising this as being a fundamental feature for equipping colleges, and the communities they serve, for future success.
Jane Horridge joined Milton Keynes College in 2013, bringing with her more than 20 years of diverse, cross industry and cross functional experience in customer experience leadership. Her background in operations, customer relationship management and strategy has enabled her to lead commercial activity within Milton Keynes College, establishing a clear presence across the business community in the city and developing new ways of working with business to develop the student experience. Jane is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, an Executive MBA graduate of Lancaster University and a certified Occupational Psychologist.
Executive Director of Offender Learning and Skills Service (OLASS)
Sally has worked in Offender Learning for 24 years, supporting learners both in custody and in the community, to develop their learning and skills, address their offending behaviour and to support them on a pathway to resettlement on and after release.
A qualified teacher, Sally began working with learners as a lecturer in custody in 1992 at HMP Bullingdon. Sally soon progressed to their Education Manager, before moving on to Executive Director of OLASS at MK College, responsible for delivering education and employment opportunities for offenders.
During this time, Sally has also supported the College in a range of provision including ETE programmes, JCP programmes, community outreach, ESF funded provision and working with NEETS. Currently, MK College work with an average of 25,000-30,000 learners a year across a range of programmes, guiding them on their future pathways within custody, with a committed focus on supporting their resettlement upon release.
Director of Offender Learning and Skills Service (OLASS)
Jason has worked in Offender Learning for 18 years, initially teaching carpentry to prisoners at HMP Bullingdon. He recognised quickly the impact that teaching students’ vocational skills had in developing their self-worth and opportunities for employment post release. He is totally committed to the rehabilitative impact of learning and has embraced a career in this sector.
Assistant Principal Apprenticeships
Tracey's enthusiasm for apprenticeships and vocational education stems from her own vocational career path, starting as a bi-lingual secretary working in London. Tracey had her own training and development business based in Bedfordshire for 18 years, specialising in Leadership & Management, Business Skills and Careers Advice. The business was bought by a Hertfordshire college where Tracey spent four years developing their apprenticeship provision before joining Milton Keynes College in September 2014.
