SPORTS

Welcome to the Sport department

What’s it all about?

The UK sport industry is experiencing growth due to hosting events like the Olympics and the Rugby World Cup. New Government health initiatives and more grassroots sport funding has led to a number of exciting career opportunities opening up in this sector.
Our Sports Science and Health & Fitness study programmes have been designed to inspire you to become the best athletes and coaches you can be, while experiencing the highest-quality sporting education in the area.

Is it for me?

If you have a passion for sport and have the potential and commitment to be the best you can be. Our programmes are an ideal opportunity to combine your interests in sport with a career, and enter the job market with vast possibilities.

What will I do?

With access to fantastic facilities, you will develop your skills in your specialism, understanding how to relate this to business and build a successful career.

We have a number of opportunities for you to join academies such as the Women’s Sport Academy where you can study while training and represent the College at a national level within the British Colleges of Sport (BCS).
You may be interested in sports leadership and coaching where you will have the chance to volunteer as a sports leader and work alongside our sports development team to become a coach. In 2014, our students studying this qualification went to Brazil for the Football World Cup!
To top this off, you will have visits from guest speakers and ample prospects to organise sporting events that could link in to our well established partnerships with over 30 schools, sports centres and coaching organisations.

What can I do next?

Some students stay on with the College after Level 3 to do a Higher Education course and work towards careers which require a degree like physiotherapy or teaching. Others may go straight into employment or an Apprenticeship, even set up their own business as a Personal Trainer. Some of our students have gone to train professionally in other countries or have entered into a professional sport.

National College Cup and Play-off competition winners

The MK College Men’s Elite Football Team have had brilliant success this season.

MK College Launches Women’s Sport Academy

The MKC Women’s Sport Academy (WSA) provides female sports people aged 16 and over with the chance to train, represent the College and gain opportunities to help those with aspirations of careers in sport.

"My tutor Ian Greenwood showed immense support to me and other students, he also helped us get a job. The College has given me all of the resources and education I will need to be able to progress to university, and with the work experience I believe I'll be able to have a career as a physiotherapist."
