ENGINEERING

Welcome to the Engineering department

What’s it all about?

Engineering is one of the most globally in-demand jobs and is one of the UK’s greatest success stories. By applying science and math to solve real world problems, engineers are at the forefront of pioneering technology. Whether you choose mechanical, electrical, welding or aeronautical engineering you’ll leave college with the most up-to-date skills for the demands of today’s manufacturing industries.

Is it for me?

Do you enjoy working on difficult problems and coming up with imaginative and pragmatic solutions? Engineers can be distinguished from other professions by their ability to solve complex problems and implement solutions in cost effective and practical ways. With the ability to face a problem, work through various thoughts and abstract ideas and then translate them into reality. If looks like something that would entice you, an engineering career path could be one for you.

What will I do?

Our industry experts will teach you using the latest, advanced technological machinery in our impressive multi-million-pound Innovation & Technology Centre. Students have the opportunity to go on a trip to Johnston Space Centre “Space University” at NASA Houston, Texas and various visits to National trade exhibitions.
We encourage our students to make the most of the excellent links we have with employers, guest lectures and work placement opportunities.
In addition to all of this, our students are offered the chance to win a prestigious award and bursary. The Adam’s Engineering Prize is supported by David and Jennifer Adams, the founders of Ace Cundell Engineers in Cosgrove. The £2,000 prize goes to students who are able to demonstrate originality, innovation and creative problem solving in their engineering course. The award has been created to encourage and inspire young engineers in our community and to recognise and celebrate the most talented engineering students in Milton Keynes.

What can I do next?

Take the skills you develop here with us to the next level, whether that be working towards a degree or becoming an apprentice, there is a route to facilitate you discovering your potential and building a rewarding career in your specialist subject.

"I'd heard about Apprenticeships at Milton Keynes College through the radio and after applying I am now in the final months of an Advanced Apprenticeship, continuing onto a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science and Robotics with the aim to becoming a qualified Software Engineer."
