Welcome to the Construction department

What’s it all about?

You can be part of making this happen and learn a highly skilled trade. Based at our advanced Innovation & Technology Centre, our construction study programmes include brickwork, carpentry, painting & decorating and electrical installation.
We partner with big names in the construction world to provide you with excellent links to business. Many of our tutors have come from working in the industry itself meaning they can truly teach you real world skills that employers are looking for.

Is it for me?

Construction study programmes at Milton Keynes College suit individuals who are practically minded, have great attention to detail and are motivated to produce high quality work in a team environment.

What will I do?

You will learn the theoretical and practical aspects of your chosen construction trade including best practice in commercial and domestic environments. You will have the opportunity to work on real life projects with trips to live construction sites, work placements and visits from expert guest speakers.
You will work towards perfecting your trade skills using modern techniques in this fast moving and advancing industry. Additionally, you will learn how to successfully communicate and work with others within current health and safety regulations.

What can I do next?

If you are ready for the workplace, you could take on an Apprenticeship with one of many employers to start earning while studying for a higher qualification on-the-job. You could stay on in full-time study progressing to higher levels to ultimately find employment or start an Advanced Apprenticeship in industry.

There are over 250,000 firms in the UK construction industry and with recognised qualifications, you’ll be ready to work for one of them. Once you’ve got the experience, you could even set up your own business and be your own boss.
