The Prince's Trust 12 Week Challenge
The 12 Week Programme overview Scheme of work
During the twelve weeks that you are on The Prince's Trust Team Programme, you will take part in a variety of activities that are designed to help you develop and improve your skills. You will also work towards your nationally recognised qualification - City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Personal Development and Contributing to the Community.
Week 1 - Induction Week

This is the week that you will meet your team members for the first time. During this week you will be:
- problem solving with your team members
- taking part in ice breakers - activities to help you get to know other team members
- learning about drug awareness
- undertaking health & safety training, including risk assessments
- setting targets and action plans for your personal development
- completing equal opportunities training
- learning about food hygiene/ nutrition
- planning for the residential, including meals and rotas
- setting out team contracts and ground rules for the residential.
Week 2 - The Residential

You will go away with the rest of the team to take part in a five-day programme. Fully qualified instructors lead all activities. Accommodation, meals and transport are also provided. During this week you will have the chance to try:
- problem-solving tasks
- rock climbing
- canoeing
- tyrolean traverse
- bridge building
- abseiling
- orienteering
- mountain walking/navigation exercise
- raft building.
This is said to be one of the best weeks on the course!!
Week 3 & 4 - Planning for the Community Project

You will work with your team to find a project that helps a charity in your community. Some projects that have been completed by past teams are:
- building a sensory garden for children with special needs
- repainting a hostel for homeless people
- repainting a community centre hall
- building a pond for a local primary school.
Once you have decided on your community project, your team will have to decide how much the materials for the project will cost then organise fundraising events to pay for the materials.
Fundraising in the past has been achieved by:
- bag packs at local supermarkets
- sponsored events such as abseiling on the residential/swims
- raffles
- cake sales.
Once the team has raised enough money, they then have to produce a time plan to keep them on target during their project. This will involve:
- how to use and make a time plan
- what makes a good team and how to make your team successful?
- individual reviews
- telephone skills
- writing letters- formal and informal.
