Qualification Guide

Entry Level

Entry Level qualifications are designed to prepare you for related qualifications, such as GCSEs, NVQs, and Diplomas. They are available at three levels and include subjects ICT, Business, and Skills for Life.

BTECs

BTEC Award - equivalent to one A Level with a more practical approach to developing the skills you’ll need for careers or advanced studies

BTEC Certificate - equivalent to two A Levels with a more practical approach to developing the skills you’ll need for careers or advanced studies.

BTEC Diploma - equivalent to three A Levels with a more practical approach to developing the skills you’ll need for careers or advanced studies

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs)

NVQs are designed to recognise your knowledge or skills in relation to a specific job. They cover different occupational areas, each one reflecting your abilities needed for a specific career.

Functional Skills

Functional Skill Courses are aimed at making sure you have the essential English, Maths and ICT skills needed to get the most out of your education, future employment and everyday life.

GCSE Resit Programme

Our GCSE resit programme is a 1 year exam-based course covering a wide range of courses. You will need to study ‘core’ subject, such as English and Maths and your choice of optional subjects, for example Art, History or Music.

AS/A2

AS/A2s are 1 or 2 year exam-based courses covering a wide range of subjects. Typically students 3 or 4 AS/A2 subjects or can be studied in combination with GCSE resits.

Higher Education (HE)

HE is available at three levels, Higher National Certificate (HNC), Higher National Diploma (HND) and Foundation Degree. You study one subject and you can continue studying to achieve a Masters.  

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are training programmes that combine on-the-job training with studying at College one day a week. You will gain experience in your chosen area and gain a nationally recognised qualification.
