Student artists unveil vision of Bletchley
24/02/2010
Two important new pieces of artwork have gone on permanent display at Bletchley Campus.
These two banners were created by our ABC Foundation Students, Suzanna Raymond, John Taylor & Kat Sorrell in collaboration with artist Vanessa Dell who was commissioned to produce public art works for the new Bletchley Leisure centre and the college.

The themes of the banners are the artist's and local peoples' vision of Bletchley, local history and the people who make it unique. They were created from a combination of material gathered in a number of workshops involving local Bletchley people, Vaness Dell and our students. Imagery alludes to such things as the "Murray Code" used by WW2 code breakers at Bletchley Park, Bletchley's historical links to the railways, historical local industries such as brickmaking and the changing multi-cultural populations.
There are three similar banners hanging in the new Bletchley Leisure Centre which was recently opened by the Mayor of Milton Keynes. On the outside of the Leisure Centre, there is a "River of Light" a fibre-optic installation leading to the entrance of the building which relates to how people used to swim in the river before a swimming pool was built and on the windows of the pool, a poem inspired by multi-cultural and changing populations of Bletchley and stories from local history.
