MK6 students are the cleverest. It’s Official!

05/03/2010

Which is the smartest sixth form in the city? Why, MK6 of course. Forget your points score per exam entered malarkey; it's the Unisixthformity points score that really matters.

Yes, that's right. It was fingers on buzzers and no conferring at UCMK on Wednesday, as the MK6 quiz team hosted the 3rd annual Unisixthformity Challenge. Duncan 'Paxo' Lovell was taking no nonsense from the seven teams, each representing the finest brains from sixth forms all over the city.

The preliminary round narrowed the field down to three, with Duncan's barked orders of "Come ON... Got to hurry you" testing the mettle of even the hardiest contestants. MK6, St Paul's and Oakgrove contested the final, complete with 'Starters for 10' and fabulous buzzers created by MK College's very own engineers! The trophy was donated by UCMK and presented by Kate Stephens, the Centre of Excellence Project Manager.

Despite the tough competition, the MK6 team won easily to claim a home victory, and bragging rights for the next 12 moths. Big congrats to Flora Morris (Captain), Tony Martignetti (expert on children's TV), Adrian Edwards, and of course David Gibb - ‘The Factinator'!

It was a proud day for Duncan, who admirably took on a combined role as MK6 team manager, impartial adjudicator, and independent quiz master,

He rounded off the day with a humble yet inspiring speech in which he thanked everyone for everything including: "Ali Dodd for loads of work put into organising the event and on the day. Thanks to the MK6 staff who wrote the questions, Mark Dunne, our fabulous man with the scores, Gavin's team from Engineering - particularly Tom, who designed the buzzer system, and Anthony, who acted as our tech support. Also thanks to Marketing (Hannah) for the team name cards and to Louise, Charles, Natalie and the team at UCMK for looking after us all." Ahhh...

Rumours that UCAS are adding Unisixthformity Challenge points to the entry criteria for red-brick universities have not yet been confirmed.
