The city could soon boast the next generation of Piers Morgans after students on its first journalism degree course scooped top exam results.
Foundation degree journalism students at University Centre Milton Keynes all passed the first year of the new MK News-backed course with flying colours.
Headline-grabbers include Richard Baxter, who bagged a grade A in journalism law after achieving 90 per cent in his exam, while Gemma Voakes-Pearson and Lauren Macanspie earned top marks in shorthand.
The two-year full-time programme, led by lecturer Becky Findley, starts every September at the Silbury Boulevard venue and is run in conjunction with the University of Bedfordshire. UCMK journalism lecturer Jon Boyle is sure the course will produce talented journalists of the future.
He said: "The first year of the course has exceeded our expectations and I just want to say a big ‘well done' to all the students.
"We aim to teach the students everything they need to know to walk straight into a reporting job at a local newspaper, magazine, website, radio station or TV channel.
"Hopefully in a few years we will start seeing some of our homegrown MK journalists giving the likes of Piers Morgan and Jeremy Paxman a run for their money."
Students can progress directly from the UCMK programme to the third year of the BA (Hons) Journalism degree at the University of Bedfordshire, or apply to other universities.
If you are interested in joining the course, applications should be made through UCAS to the University of Bedfordshire. For further information log on ucmk.ac.uk or call Becky Findley on MK 637283.
