Milton Keynes College is a leading Further Education College providing vocational, academic, professional and higher education courses across four Milton Keynes based campuses. We also deliver offender learning programmes at various prisons and young offenders units. We offer careers in teaching, assessing, management, student and staff support. We're looking for talented people to share in our future and join our professional workforce of 1,300 employees.
HMP Leicester is an Adult Local Prison in the centre of the city delivering a mix of programmes, focused largely on skills for life and ICT with PSD and employability courses. All prisoners receive an initial induction when they enter the prison. The College requires an Induction and Assessment Worker to act a part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering initial induction to prisoners. You will undertake skills for life assessments and promote available courses to support prisoners' enrolment onto appropriate programmes of learning.
As the successful candidate you will:
• Have proven experience of training or supporting adults.
• Be computer literate with experience of word processing, spreadsheets and databases and ideally IT induction and assessment packages.
• Have the willingness to respond flexibly and creatively in a changing and challenging environment.
• Possess good communication and interpersonal skills, in relating to prison staff and working with students who may have little experience of education and training.
• Have a willingness and ability to assume responsibility and to see through detailed tasks.
• Have a good basic education (e.g. 5 GCSEs at C or above, including Maths and English).
• Be sensitive to the complexities of prisons as closed institutions and have the ability to work positively within the inherent restraints.
