Hairdressing NVQ Level 2

Programme Overview

This programme will help you gain the practical and theoretical knowledge you need to get started.  You will cover cutting, colouring, perming, blow-drying, setting, long hair work, shampooing, conditioning, reception skills, health & safety in the salon, working as part of a team, cost effective use of resources, retailing and the importance of first impressions.

Delivery Approach

You will be required to attend college 1 day a week and will be assessed out in the workplace by an assessor every 4 weeks where suitable one to one appointments will be arranged.

Participant Profile

If you have any qualifications from the list below you will not be eligible for Train 2 Gain:

 

A full Level 2 qualification including the following:

 

5 GCSEs at grades A* - C

5 O’ Level passes

5 CSEs at Grade 1

2 AS levels or more

1 A level or more

NVQ 2

NVQ 3

NVQ 4

Intermediate GNVQ or higher

Edexcel/BTEC 1st Diploma or higher

City & Guilds Craft Part 2

Access Course

HND/HNC

First Degree/Higher Degree

 

You have to be 19+ at the start of the academic year

 

You have to be employed (no minimum hours) or working voluntary in a salon.

 

You must have been in the UK for at least 3 years for reasons other than study
Programme Content Learners will be practising hairdressing skills in the following: cutting, colouring, perming, blow-drying, setting, long hair work, shampooing and conditioning whilst you are working in the salon and whist you attend college. Assessment is continuous with practical, oral and written assessment throughout the course, leading to the production of a portfolio to demonstrate competence.
Length of Programme Depending on your experience and knowledge of the industry, the length of the programme could be either 6 months or 1 year.
