Milton Keynes College serves a rich, diverse and multicultural community, and has been providing high quality education and training for international students for over twenty years. To help you with your studies, regular assessments and tutorial support is provided by a team of dedicated staff who understand the needs of international students

 

 

Full-Time English Courses

Courses for International Students leaflet

These courses are a minimum of 15 hours a week, for 30 weeks. This is sufficient for visa purposes. You may study alongside ESOL learners.

The course offers:

  • Core General English - 4 lessons per week. Sessions 2.5 hours with a quarter hour break
  • Tutorial - 1 hour session per week
  • Specialist English courses including ICT - 2 hours per week
  • 1 to 1s, as required.

There are Six Levels:

Foundation (Pre-Entry - E1)

  • Leading to Key English Test (KET)
  • For those who have only a little English or feel they have forgotten what they have learnt before.

Intermediate 1 (E2)

  • Leading to Preliminary English Test (PET)
  • For students who have studied English for 1-2 years and have a basic knowledge of spoken and written English.

Intermediate 2 (E3)

  • Leading to Preliminary English Test (PET)
  • For those who have studied English for three years or more and can speak and write competently.

Intermediate 3 (L1)

  • Leading to First Certificate in English (FCE)
  • For students who have studied English for 4 years or more and are familiar with the basic structural/grammatical patterns of the language.

Advanced (L2)

  • Leading to Certificate of Advanced English (CAE)
  • For students ready to work at Post Cambridge First Certificate level, this course offers a high level of English qualification for employment or study.

Proficiency (L2+)

  • Leading to Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)
  • This is the highest-level course. Originally developed for non-native speakers intending to teach English, this course demands near-native fluency in speech and writing.

English and ICT

For people who wish to use Information Technology in their studies or in a work-related context. The course provides an introduction to word-processing, spreadsheets and databases, and is suitable for students as all levels.

Full Time Programmes can include:

For people at either basic pr intermediate level, or above, working or planning to work in an office, administration or junior management post in an English-speaking environment. Students will learn how to:

  • Be effective in written and spoken business English
  • Communicate in marketing and sales and social situations
  • Deal with reports and meetings.

IELTS and English for Academic Purposes (Part-Time)

This exam preparation course will prepare you for an IELTS (International English Language Testing Systems) test.

This course is useful if you need to demonstrate your competence in the four areas of speaking, reading, writing and listening, for university entry or for other academic programmes or employment.

Business Chinese (Part-Time)

This course is aimed at professionals who would like to gain a better understanding of Chinese culture and language and to maximise business opportunities in one of the fastest growing markets.
