INTRODUCTION

The industry has never been more in demand or the staff in it better appreciated for the amazing work they do. With life expectancy increasing, a growing population and the needs of society changing, there are incredible opportunities available in this valuable sector.

The ways of delivering care and support are evolving to meet the need for increased specialist care and education, with the NHS alone offering over 350 different types of role. This means that traditional jobs in nursing, care-giving and teaching are developing to offer more personalised care and education.

Combined, the industries within the Health and Social Care sector employ one in ten of the working population in the UK, with an extra half a million jobs expected to by 2030.

What will I do

The best way to learn how to care for people is to do exactly that. You will experience working in different settings in various roles to help you establish exactly where your passion and talents lie.

You could be experiencing life on one of the wards at Milton Keynes Hospital one week and delivering specific care for Dementia patients in a care home the next. But in everything you do, you will learn to make a vital difference in people’s lives, from nurturing young children to giving specialist care to vulnerable people of all ages.

This course will equip you with the theoretical knowledge, practical experience and self-confidence to kick off a promising and successful career in Health & Social Care.

What’s next?

Depending on your chosen pathway, you could carry on studying with a university-level qualification in your specialism. Your course is an ideal starting point to progress to specialist areas such as midwifery, social work, nursing, mental health nursing and counselling.

If further study isn’t for you, you might want to kick off your career straight away by using the contacts and experience you gain whilst on your course to find employment in your chosen setting.

The industry also has great progression and development opportunities; you can branch out into different areas of care, and develop your management and leadership skills.

Is it for me?

If you have a passion for working with people, you will find a career in this sector extremely rewarding. You must be compassionate, supportive and understanding of people who are at different stages of their lives.

You will be a friendly face, a helping hand, a care giver, and sometimes even a lifeline to people in their time of need. Your personal values, professional behaviour and whole demeanour are very important to forging a successful career in this industry.
