Performing Arts

The Performing Arts qualifications offered at Milton Keynes College focus on nurturing students existing talents and developing new skills by allowing each person an opportunity to showcase their skills through performance.

While studying with us, you will learn the skills needed to pursue a successful career in theatre, dance, music or another related field. Our professional-style workshops and rehearsals are taught by experienced creative tutors and you will be taught to conduct yourself just as would be expected of someone working in the industry.

Through a range of practical and theory-based disciplines, you will develop your skills and take part in a number of different performance activities throughout the course. Performances this academic year include: A Christmas Carol, The Little Shop of Horrors Musical and Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Level 2 Courses

The Extended Diploma Level 2 in Music and Level 2 in Performing Arts will allow students to experience a range of disciplines and skills in order to specialise at Level 3.

Our Level 2 Diploma in Music will give you an introduction to the world of music. You will study an introduction to music theory, recording, singing, production, performing as a group and performing on your own.

Our Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts offers an introduction to all of the performance disciplines of dance, acting and singing. You will also study elements of production arts and professional skills. 

Level 3 Courses

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Acting, Musical Theatre, Dance, Music, Production Arts or Music Technology will give you sound knowledge and experience to progress onto a career within Performing/Visual Arts, Theatre Studies, Drama, Dance, Television and Film, Media Performance, Arts Management, Music, Creative Arts Marketing, Event Management, Music Production, Stage Management, Theatre Technology or Musical Theatre environment. The diploma will teach you about working for agencies, within management and carry out freelance work.

Many of our students go on to our HND in Performing Arts qualification and complete a top up year at University or Drama/Music school. Some of our ex-students have progressed onto prestigious Drama Schools including the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, 

Urdang Academy and East 15. A Level 3 qualification would also allow you to go straight from your Diploma into employment.

Level 4 and 5 (HND in Performing Arts)

Our HND qualification is a study of all of the performing arts. You will study each of the main performance disciplines of dance, acting and singing as well production, directing and business to ensure you have a rounded knowledge of the industry.

Modules include: Theatre in Education, Contemporary Dance, Tap Dance, Musical Theatre, Research skills, Professional Practice, Ballet, Alternative Approaches to Acting, Dance and Health and Singing Techniques.

On completion of a HND, students are able to continue their studies at University or Drama School.
