Sustainability
The College is proactively committed to sustainable development through the learning opportunities it delivers, its management of resources and its engagement with communities. In testament to this, the College has recently gained an ‘Excellent’ grade for sustainable building for their new Learning and Resources Centre at the Chaffron Way Campus.
Over the past few months, the College has implemented recycling processes and a waste management programme, whilst sustainability has figured highly in citizenship programmes, enrichment activities and printed promotional material. All paper used at the College is now purchased from forestry-managed sources (FSC) and we have also implemented a ‘park n ride’ initiative in conjunction with the MK Dons. We will soon be initiating a ‘save energy’ campaign across all campuses.
The aim of the SAVE campaign is to change the culture of the College to develop an ethos of social and environmental responsibility, so that all staff and students will be aware of sustainable development, and expect it to be part of everyday practice.
Steve West, the College’s Sustainable Development Manager has been working on all these initiatives as well as many others, but one of his remaining actions is to recruit staff and student volunteers to become SD champions. The volunteers will form action groups and these groups will form the backbone of this initiative and will put forward plans of action and promote the cause.
College Principal, Rob Badcock has led from the front on the initial steps to make the College a sustainable development beacon for Milton Keynes. The campaign is an important part of the College’s strategic plan and is fully supported by the Governors and Senior Management Team.
