New Garden for the Early Year's Nursery

New Garden for the Early Year's Nursery

The Team made the decision to complete their two week community project at Milton Keynes College’s Early Years Nursery. The garden was a little run down and needed freshening up.

For fundraising, the team had previously gained sponsors to abseil down a 50ft mountain on their residential. This took a lot of courage and dedication to complete. To raise further funds, a bag pack was organised at Sainsbury’s, as well as a raffle and a Krispy Kreme doughnut sale.

The team decided to paint the fence in the pattern of one panel green, one blue and one red. The colour scheme really brightened the garden up with the result being a tidier and more engaging play area for the children. The shed additionally was washed and sanded down and painted in a beach style theme of blue and green.

The team also created a mini allotment, planting seeds of a variety of vegetables and erecting a mini fence around it. Continuing this theme they also designed a zig zag flower bed and constructed a tee pee from bamboo sticks.

Once the community project was complete a handover ceremony was planned. The group prepared a presentation which ended with the nursery’s manager, Karen Allford, cutting the ceremonial ribbon. The handover finished with a treasure hunt for the nursery children.
